Why earn the AZ-305 certification in 2026

AZ-305 is Microsoft's expert-level certification for Azure solutions architects. Microsoft expects candidates to have advanced experience across networking, virtualisation, identity, security, business continuity, and governance, plus experience with Azure administration, development, and DevOps. Earning it requires the Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) certification first. The exam covers designing identity, governance and monitoring solutions, data storage solutions, business continuity solutions, and infrastructure solutions.

Who should sit this exam

Senior cloud architects designing enterprise Azure solutions, technical leads making platform decisions, infrastructure architects planning multi-region deployments, and consultants advising on Azure adoption strategies.

Exam tips

  • Think in terms of trade-offs: cost vs performance, availability vs consistency
  • Know Azure Well-Architected Framework pillars and how to apply each one
  • Understand multi-region deployment patterns, traffic routing, and data replication
  • Review authentication architectures: B2C, B2B, managed identities, and service principals

How to use this AZ-305 practice exam

The 297 AZ-305 practice questions follow the four design areas in Microsoft's outline. Many are scenario questions: a business requirement, a constraint such as cost, recovery objectives or compliance, and several designs that could work. The skill being measured is choosing the one that fits.

Weight your time by the official percentages. Design infrastructure solutions is 30 to 35% of the exam and design identity, governance, and monitoring solutions is 25 to 30%, so together they are most of the paper. Business continuity is 15 to 20%.

Read every explanation, including for questions you got right. At this level the wrong options are usually valid designs that fail one requirement, and the explanation names which one.

Questions you miss come back through spaced repetition, so a design you got wrong on Monday is asked again before you rely on it. Keep going until those misses stop appearing.

Finish with timed sets against the limit for your sitting, which Microsoft lists as 100 or 120 minutes for expert exams depending on whether labs may appear. The free decision sheets below settle individual design choices, such as which messaging service or which load balancer fits a requirement.

We write our questions to Microsoft's published skills outline. They are practice material rather than a copy of the live exam, and we do not support the use of exam dumps.
